Mobile PBX (or hosted MBX) is a new managed hosted PBX service that extends traditional fixed line PBX telephone system functionality to mobile devices such as mobiles telephones, smart phones and PDA devices by provisioning them for use as handset extensions. Mobile PBX services also can include fixed line phones.
Mobile PBX systems are different from other hosted PBX systems in that they simply forward data or calls to mobile phones by allowing the mobile phone itself, through the use of buttons, keys and other input devices, to control the PBX phone functions (such as transfer, hold etc) and to allow users to manage communications without having to call into the telephone system itself first.
Mobile PBX telephone solutions are often priced on a subscription basis per user per month and are relatively easy to set up due to limited amount of hardware needed.

Centile set to Launch "ISTRA Mobile" Solution
Hosted PBX and Unified communications provider, Centile, are about to launch a Mobile PBX solution called "ISTRA Mobile" in Barcelona at the Mobile World Congress.
The ISTRA Mobile platform is set to enable Mobile operators to provide advanced PBX features to business subscribers over their mobile phone handsets.
Mobile operators will also be able to take advantage white label branding in terms of a web portal and desktop PC based applications.
Centile are expected to launch the Mobile PBX campaign with a low up-front investment and a ‘Pay-As-You-Grow' business model with users simply paying on activation.
The Executive Director Strategy & Business Development at Centile states, Nadahl Shocair, was quoted as saying "The ISTRA Mobile platform finally allows mobile operators to reduce churn and quickly add valuable business subscribers with increases in ARPU driven by this ‘PBX add-on service' to the business tariffs while delivering increases in cumulative mobile minutes, local and international call traffic".
